It’s Our Birthday! What What!!

image

The Birthday Girls!

Yuuuup, that’s right! Today I am 26 and my Gabby girl is 1 year old! That adorable, awesome kitty face is already 1 year old!!! I cannot believe it.

So, when we got her last May we asked the lady when she was born, and she said the last week of February. So OBVIOUSLY I declared that we shared the same birthday! And no one can argue with me, because I have a tiara on. So there.

I’m feelin good. I’m drinkin coffee and trying to comment on blogs and get ahead on some blog posts because on Friday I’ll have my wisdom teeth out and I ain’t gonna be online much. It’s gross wet-snowing out right now, but later the honeyman and I are going out to buy me some books (obvs) and probably dinner at Red Robin – YUMMMMMM! There will be Cougar Town watching and Black Ops playing, and all will be happy.

Gabby and I wanna share the love. Comment and tell me what you like to eat on your birthday! I am all about the food. And if you comment, you might win a either a $15 Amazon gift card OR a book from The Book Depository up to $15. Your choice.

Yayyyy.

Yayyyy.

Giveaway ends on… tomorrow morning at noon EST! And I will announce the winner sometime after that. Oh and it’s open internationally.

Have an fabulous day ya’ll!

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – GIVEAWAY

Hey so remember that book that I didn’t love even though basically everyone else in the world does?

This one.

Welllll since I bought it but wasn’t crazy about it, I figured I’d give it away here on my blog, which I almost never get to do!

Don’t worry, it’s practically brand-spanking new since I read it in less than 2 days and just laid around on the couch reading it. And I read with my dust jackets off, so that’s still all nice and pretty too.

Sooo, who wants it? If you do, leave a comment (make sure I can get to your blog or email address so that I can contact you) and on Saturday morning I’ll use random.org to pick a winner and announce it. (Also, this IS open internationally.)

Good luck!

Mini-Readathon Wrap-Up Post!

Dessert!

I can’t believe it’s already over! It went very quickly, and even though I got distracted a lot I didn’t do too bad – I finished 1 book and read more of another, so I read about 250 pages total, which is about how I did during the last one in January so yay!

I want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated today, and I really hope you had fun. This got thrown together kind of haphazardly and then I got sick two freaking days ago, so I feel like I didn’t live up to the previous mini-readathons. So thank you again, and I had a blast reading along with you guys!

I really hope you guys had a good time today, and continue to do so if you’re still going! Remember, you have until tomorrow night to participate in the challenges and stuff, but you HAVE to complete this wrap-up post and leave your link (or answers) in the comments in order to be eligible t win the $30 prize! Remember, it’ll be $30 either for Amazon or The Book Depository, whichever you choose. I’ll announce the winner on Wednesday.

So, here are the wrap-up questions!

1. How many books and/or pages were you able to read?

2. About how many hours were you able to read for? (Were there many distractions, breaks, etc?)

3. Do you have any likes/dislikes about the 12-hour readathon, compared to a 24-hour readathon?

4. Favorite and least favorite books that you read today? Favorite / least favorite challenges? (Not that there were many, but if you want to comment about any of the ones from past mini-readathons feel free to do so).

5. Do you have any suggestions for things you’d like me to do differently for the next mini-readathon?

And just for the heck of it, my answers…

1. How many books and/or pages were you able to read?

I read a bit from two books, and finished one of them. I read close to 250 pages, which isn’t terrible considering.

2. About how many hours were you able to read for? (Were there many distractions, breaks, etc?)

SO MANY DISTRACTIONS. Work, and then being sick, and then chatting with my friend when we really should have been reading… Should have seen that coming. And of course being online here and there and Twitter, but that really counts as part of the readathon, so that’s okay.

3. Do you have any likes/dislikes about the 12-hour readathon, compared to a 24-hour readathon?

I like my mini-readathons because it’s not SO TERRIBLE AND HARD to stay up for that long, but it does leave me feeling less accomplished because I take so many breaks and stuff… ahem…

4. Favorite and least favorite books that you read today? Favorite / least favorite challenges? (Not that there were many, but if you want to comment about any of the ones from past mini-readathons feel free to do so).

I liked the teaser challenge I came up with. I like some of my past challenges too, I was just trying to do things a little different since there were fewer challenges this time.

5. Do you have any suggestions for things you’d like me to do differently for the next mini-readathon?

Well actually, this is more a question for you guys – Did you like having fewer challenges and hence more time to focus on reading, or do you prefer to have more so that you can interact with other readathoners more? Any other suggestions or thoughts?

I probably will host another mini-readathon in January, and I promise it will be more well-planned, lol. I’m also going to make it a point to take the day off next time, because having to work threw me off a bit.

OK I’m off to read a bit more before I crawl into bed. I hope everyone had a great time today! And thanks again for participating you guys!!! *hugs*

Summer Mini-Readathon Start-Up Post!

 Wooooo! It’s time!

Some of you may have started already, and that’s cool. I’m getting over a cold (well, I’m hoping I’m getting over it anyways) so I’m starting a bit late, somewhere between now and 10 AM Eastern time. You can start as early or as late as you want, as long as it’s sometime on Sunday wherever you are.

Here’s how the mini-challenges are going to work – there will be 4 (including this one, the start-up post) and you can join in or not. However, you DO have to complete the wrap-up post in order to win the big giveaway prize.

And what is that?

A $30 Amazon gift card (or a $30 order from The Book Depository)! Your choice.

There’s nothing special that you have to do – just have your name on the linky in the sign-up post, and complete at least the wrap-up mini-challenge. You have until Monday night to complete your wrap-up post, and on Wednesday I’ll use random.org to select a winner and I’ll announce it via blog post and email that person.

I’m really excited for today’s mini-readathon. Honestly, I was pretty lazy about it all but I think it’s going to work out really well. The prize system is simple, and there’s only 4 challenges/update posts so that means more reading time for us all! And I look forward to chatting on Twitter with you guys too :-)

OK, LET THE FIRST MINI-CHALLENGE BEGIN!

Copy, paste, and answer the questions below, either in the comments or on your blog. If you do a start-up post on your blog to answer, come back here and leave the link to the post in the comments.

1. Tell everyone three random things about yourself:
-
-
-

2. Is this your first readathon?

3. Do you have any specific goals for today? (# of books or pages to read?)

4. Do you have any specific snacks, drinks, or books planned?

5. What hours do you plan on reading during?

And my answers, as an example:

1. Tell everyone three random things about yourself:
- I’m an extremely messy sleeper. I sprawl out a lot and sometimes talk in my sleep. The honeyman makes fun of me for it.
- When driving, I hate making left-hand turns onto busy streets and will in fact turn right and then turn around somewhere more convenient.
- I walk into walls / doorframes / tables a lot.

2. Is this your first readathon?

Nope! LOL.

3. Do you have any specific goals for today? (# of books or pages to read?)

I’m hoping to finish two books that I’m currently reading, and possibly start a third. Other than that, I don’t have any specific goals.

4. Do you have any specific snacks, drinks, or books planned?

Well, here are the books I’m going to have by me today. I’m hoping to finish The Graveyard Book and The Book of Tomorrow at the very least. I’ll try to squeeze in a bit more of Great Expectations, but I have An Abundance of Katherines and Antimatter available to read from too. It’ll just depend on my mood I guess.

As for food and drinks, I’m sooooo looking forward to it all! For snacks I have jalapeno poppers, bread and cheese spreads, grapes, clementines and whatever else is around the house. For dinner the honeyman is probably going to order pizza so we don’t have to deal with cooking. And I have a banana cream pie defrosting in the fridge for dessert. For drinks I have water, lemonade, berry punch, raspberry ginger ale, coffee, and tea.

I just realized that this sounds like SO MUCH for 12 hours… but you know, I probably won’t eat it all. I just like to have options. Plus the honeyman will be home with me, and a friend of mine is coming over to read with me today too!

5. What hours do you plan on reading during?

10 AM to 10 PM Eastern time. Sadly I have to work until 2 PM, but I should be able to get a decent amount of reading in because Sundays are usually really slow.

Can’t wait to see your answers everybody! Now get reading, and I’ll be back in 4 hours (2 PM Eastern time) for the next mini-challenge!

Winter Mini-Readathon – Join the crowd!

Good morning everybody! So, the mini-readathon is only about two weeks away! I can’t believe it! I’m very excited to spend the day reading & eating yummy food. So this is kind of a reminder post, but I also want to work on spreading the word a little bit – the more the merrier, as they say.

So, if you do a blog post letting others know about the mini-readathon, you have the chance to win a $10 Amazon e-gift card. Just leave the link to your blog post in the comments below by Saturday January 14th and I’ll draw a winner using random.org. Winner will be announced on Sunday the 15th in my Sarah Sunday post.

You can do this whether you’ve already joined the mini-readathon or are just signing up now. So, if you need it again, here’s the info (also located in the Winter Mini-Readathon tab above).

The Sarah Says Winter Mini-Readathon will be on Sunday January 22, 2012.

  • The object is to read for any 12-hour block on that Sunday. I’ll be reading probably from 10 am to 10 pm, US Eastern time.
  • There will be 5 mini-challenges, and one bonus challenge (from my sister Heather at All You Need Designs. She also made my mini-readathon pics! Aren’t they awesome? I have the best sister.)
  • One of the challenges will be hosted by the very cool Jenn at Booksessed.
  • The prize for each of the 5 mini-challenges will be a $5 Amazon e-gift card. This is a little different than the last mini-readathon, so we’ll see how it goes. There are more winners this way! Prize for Heather’s bonus challenge / giveaway will be announced later.
  • Participating in the challenges will last until 12 PM (Eastern) on Monday the 23rd, and the winners will be announced on Tuesday.

Dear Readers: I Suck

Hey ya’ll. So as some of you may have noticed, the past two months have been CRAZY for me – I was working 60-70 hours a week, started a 2nd job, got sick for about a week, etc. I am so, so sorry for the lack of posting on this here blog, the lack of reviews, and also for my lack of blog-reading and commenting. There are times at work when I have some spare time to go online and catch up on my Google Reader, but I try not to do it often because I don’t want work to block my access to blog-related stuff. So again, I’m so so sorry and thank you SO MUCH for putting up with my madness.

On a happier note – my work schedule at my main job has gone back to normal, which means I’m back to my 36-48 weeks with more days off. YAY! I’m still working part time at Lane Bryant, which is usually only 4 to 8 hours a week and shouldn’t be too much of a hinderance in all things reading and blog-related. I’m really looking forward to getting up in the morning, making coffee, and reading blogs before I go start my day. It’s my favorite way to start my days off.

Now, for those of you that voted in October’s poll – as you can see, it’s the last day of October and I still haven’t posted my review for Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. That’s because I’m still reading it. I swore to myself that I was going to get it done early in the month, but I’m a giant procrastinator and kept putting it off because I haven’t been in the mood for a 1000 page book. I kept telling myself to save it for the readathons – which I did, but then proceeded to read other, shorter books to make me feel like I accomplished more. However I have started JS & Mr. N, and so far I’m enjoying it. It’s like Austen or some other old-timey author decided to write some quirky historical fantasy set in old England. Also, I’m reading it via audiobook and paperback so that I can read it as often as possible and hopefully I’ll be posting the review for you by the end of the week. I feel really bad that I haven’t gotten it read and reviewed for you guys yet, but I promise it’ll happen.

As my thank-you to you guys for being such awesome readers and for being so nice to me while I’ve been all hectic, I’m giving away a copy of Lola and the Boy Next Door.

To enter, just leave me a comment with a way to get in touch with you – preferably either via Twitter or email. Giveaway ends Friday the 4th. The winner will be chosen most likely by random.org, and I’ll contact the winner for the mailing address.

Again, thanks for being so awesome, and I’ll try to get JS & Mr. N read ASAP. You guys are the best!!!!

~Sarah

>Hell yes! It’s ma birthday – giveaway!

>

***CLOSED***

OK, so in honor of turning the big 2-4 today, I thought it’d be fun to do another giveaway. The prize? $15 e-gift card to Borders.com. Why not Amazon, like last time, you say? Well, as much as I do love Amazon, I don’t think they’re ever going away… and since Borders is all suffering financially, I thought it’d be nice to support them. I’m lucky that the two in my area aren’t closing, and I REALLY don’t want all of the Borders to close. Also, I’ve ordered from Borders.com before and was really pleased – it arrived quickly, and they have pretty decent online prices. Plus you get points to your Borders Rewards account, if you have one!

Anyhoo, because I’m literally thinking this up as I’m typing, and I wanna go jump in the shower so I can start my birthday festivities, I’m making this simple.

Here’s how to enter:

Leave a comment on this page, telling me how YOU like to celebrate YOUR birthdays.

  • Only one comment per person, please, because you only get one entry. The winner will be announced on Friday, March 4th, here on my blog.
  • You must see the announcement on my blog and email me at sarahmay227@gmail.com within 24 hours of my post, or I’ll announce a new winner.
  • Oh yeah, winners will be selected either random.org or names-in-a-bowl style. Haven’t decided yet. Either way, I’ll post pictures.
  • Once the winnner emails me, I’ll email them the $15 Borders e-gift card.

OK, that’s it, start entering folks!

*** Oh yeah, also, I’ve finally reached 100 followers! 105, actually :o ) Because of the crazy awesomeness of this, I’m hoping to do my first IMM vlog sometime next week! Keep an eye out for my super-shy vlog debut! And thanks for all the peeps that think my little blog is worth following, I little-numerical-heart you guys!
