Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Made Me Feel Stuff

Good morning everybody! I’m having a nice leisurely morning – drinking coffee, listening to Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, and I’m probably going to play some more Black Ops this morning because it’s still Double XP (double experience points). Anyways… Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the fabulous ladies at The Broke and The Bookish, and this week’s topic is Top Ten Books I Had Strong Emotions Over. I’ve decided to do this week’s TTT in VLOG form… so that you can actually see my emotions for these books. And because I’m lazy. And because I’ve mentioned these books about a bajillion times… So this was a way to mix it up. Anyways, here you are:

Sarah Sunday!

Good morning guys! Before I really get into my little weekly update, I’d just like to let you know that I was a GUEST on this week’s Bookie Brunch, and I did a little vlog for it! Please go check it out, this week’s Bookie Brunch discussion is about unusual book sizes.

Sarah update: Not a whole lot has gone on this week except work. Monday and Tuesday I trained the temp, and on Tuesday I pretty much just let him do everything and only helped him out if he had a question (which means that night I just sat in the corner and crocheted, read, and played my PSP). So, this afternoon he’ll have his first shift on his own and as of today my schedule goes back to normal. YAY! This week at Second Job was a special week where our employee discount goes from 40% to 50%, so I shopped a TON and got some super cute clothes, plus bought some Christmas presents. The past couple days I have not gotten enough sleep between my First Job shifts and I’ve been absolutely exhausted. I did find the energy to browse a bit online this morning, and I came across something annoying…

As some of you may know, I drive a SUPER-CUTE yellow New Beetle. I bought it about 2 years ago and I just absolutely love it, I want to drive a New Beetle for the rest of my life. Well anyways, VW stopped making the New Beetle in 2010, and 2012 will be the start of their new updated Beetle and it SUCKS. Here’s what it will look like:

YUCK! It doesn’t even look like a Beetle anymore! It looks like a regular stupid car. Apparently VW has decided that they want to market the Beetle to more male car owners, since the customer base for the New Beetle is primarily women. And that sucks, I LOVE that the New Beetle is the most girly car there is. The 2012 Beetle looks ugly and enormous. I’m seriously disappointed. Now, I don’t buy cars new anyways – I buy them used when they’re like 7-10 years old, so I wouldn’t even consider buying a 2012 Beetle until about 2020, and hopefully by then they’ll have realized their tragic mistake and bring the adorable New Beetle back. But in a decade or so when I’m shopping for a car if I can’t find an old 2010 New Beetle, I’ll just go to another brand rather than by the stupid 2012 Beetle. I’ll get a Mini Cooper instead. I love cute tiny cars.

I know this doesn’t really constitute as a Sarah update, but as a New Beetle owner I had to rant about how they’re ruining the best car ever!

Speaking of my car, I dropped it off to my brother-in-law to do a bunch of stuff on – oil change, inspection, check to see if I need new tires, try to fix my wind shield wipers, etc. Which means that the honeyman has been driving me around the past couple days and probably will most of this week. He’s so sweet, and we’re both getting something out of it – he’s feeling useful until he starts his new job, and I feel spoiled. Plus it gives us a little extra time together, which is nice. And tonight we get to curl up on the couch together and watch the season premiere of The Walking Dead! Yay!

Bookish update: I finished reading Nightwatch, and I’m going to work on posting the review by tomorrow morning. I was trying to decide yesterday between reading a historical romance novel or a YA book, but then decided that I should really just keep reading off of my October to-read pile instead. So, I think that this morning I’ll be starting Common’s new book One Day It’ll All Make Sense. And hopefully I’ll be able to finish that and maybe squeeze in one more book before the readathons start next weekend!

Also, my 6-year old nephew Joshua is apparently becoming quite the little reader, and he’s starting to really get into chapter books! I’m SO excited to buy a bunch of books for him for Christmas – so far I bought him the first Boxcar Children book. And it’s so fun to revisit the ones that I loved when I was a little kid, and to see what’s new and popular now. I miss working in a bookstore and knowing all about the most happening kids series and stuff.

So, that’s about it. Like I said, it hasn’t been a very exciting week. However I have a feeling that with my nice four days off of work at First Job, this week will be crazy busy socially. I’m getting it all out of the way now so that next week I can hole myself up in the apartment and get my readathon on.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Okay, welcome to this week’s In My Mailbox, which is hosted by The Story Siren. Check out the link for info on participating :o )

1 – Excuse my over-use of the word “interesting”. It’s definitely kind of weird to see yourself video taped and then realize all your annoying little habits. I need a thesaurus.
2 – I also stumble over my words a lot in this… sorry. I’m tired.
3 – The quality kind of sucks… I think it’s because I recorded directly to youtube, instead of doing it on my webcam and then uploading.

Books featured:

The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown
Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson
Freedom by Jonathan Franzen
Bright-Sided by Barbara Ehrenreich
The Complete Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Man Skills
Changing Planes by Ursula K. Le Guin
The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak
The Wonder of Genetics by Richard Kowles
