Sarah Sunday!

Good morrrrning!

Sarah update: I actually had a pretty good week! Date night last Sunday was pretty great – the honeyman and I went to Red Robin for dinner, and then took a nice long walk through the park, which is basically what all of our dates were like when we first started dating :-)  For some reason we don’t do that much anymore, but it was really fun. And I saw a bunny! That let me get surprisingly close to it, although I still had to zoom in to take that picture.

Monday was a great day because I got to go to lunch with two other local book bloggers – Steph from Steph the Bookworm, and Jill from Seaside Book Nook! It was a lot of fun. I’ve gotten together with Steph a few times before, but this was my first time meeting Jill and she was really nice and friendly. I love meeting book bloggers in my area!

On the whole weight-loss thing, I’ll do a quick update – I’m down 3 lbs. and I finally got my gym membership back, which means I don’t have to keep piggy-backing on my sister’s and the honeyman’s. It also means I can go workout whenever I want now, and I’m really excited to get into a nice routine with it this coming week. So far I’m not feeling any huge craving for junk food or anything like that, although I DID go buy light butter and that shit was depressing. What is the world coming to when I have to stoop to buying LIGHT butter??? *shakes head*

The honeyman and I started watching a new show this week. Well, not new necessarily, the first season is on Netflix. It’s called Wilfred, and it’s really, really weird.

Basically, it’s about this guy played by Elijah Wood (I hate his creepy ass) who keeps trying to kill himself. And then one day after failing yet again to commit suicide, something in him kind of snaps and he starts seeing his hot neighbor’s dog Wilfred as an Australian guy in a dog suit. (Apparently this was an Austrailian show originally and this is the US remake.) And the dog keeps pushing Mr. Crazypants to just live life the way he wants instead of trying to off himself. Everyone around just sees Wilfred as a regular dog. And of course Wilfred smokes pot and swears and is just generally a kind of hilarious asshole. Like I said, it’s really odd. I’m only about two episodes in, but I’m told it gets even funnier.

Bookish update: I finished four books this week; The Moonstone (Wilkieeeee!!!), Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness, and The Pirates! In an Adventure with Ahab by Gideon Defoe, and An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. I’ll probably write the review for the John Green book tomorrow… my feelings about it are kind of mixed-up. Also I’m going to try to write a non-spoilery review of The Moonstone, for all of you that weren’t participating in the readalong.

I’m starting The Damned Busters by Matthew Hughes today. I’m about 70 pages into it so far and it’s kind of funny, kind of weird. It’s about a guy who refuses to sell his soul to a demon, which leads to Hell going on strike, which means bad stuff everywhere just kind of stops happening, which turns out to be a very bad thing. I’m really going to try to read my ass off this month. My stats this years are PATHETIC. I usually read around 150 books a year, give or take. Yet the year is 2/3 of the way over and I’ve only read like 50-60 books. And I don’t even have a really good reason for it, except some busyness here and there, and some slow books, and yeah. And I should probably just give up on this year’s challenges completely, because there are some that I haven’t made ANY progress on yet.

Le sigh. So yeah, gonna try to get my reading mojo back this month.

Anyhoo, that’s my week. How are you guys doin?

  1. Dinner and a walk in the park sounds wonderfully romantic! :) The boyfriend and I pretty much only do this when we’re on vacation and I always love it, but we never make time to do it at home.
Also: yay on meeting bloggers in real life! It sounds like you guys had a lot of fun together! I wish I lived closer to the US…
Go you for sticking to your plans and exercising! Hope you have a great week!

  2. 50 to 60 books sounds lovely to me this year. I’m just cracking book number 32 right now. I don’t know what’s happening over here.

  3. Netflix keeps recommending Wilfred to me too. Probably because I love the weirdness that is Doctor Who. Is it Elijah that you find creepy or his character? Because no one’s eyes should be that intense and bobble-y.

I don’t like butter at all (exception being when it’s an ingredient in something like mac and cheese or cookies) but LIGHT butter does sound depressing. That part did make me laugh though.

    • ELIJAH. Ever since I saw him in Sin City, dude has freaked me out. And I didn’t like him much before that either. Ugh. Wilfred IS pretty funny though, and insanely weird.

I’m glad you laughed about my light butter :-) That’s kind of what I was going for. Cause trying to lose weight is good and all, but bitching about it should be hilarious.

  4. Aww … dinner and a walk sounds great! I loved those kinds of dates. :) Oh, and meeting other bloggers is AWESOME! I’m happy to have met some in my area …

You’re still not doing too bad with your reading — 50-60 books is still great! Considering that there are people who read less than 10 books a year? Though, maybe next year you’ll hit your goal!

We really don’t buy any of the “light” stuff, but get rid of the junk and add more fruits and veggies. Of course, you’re doing better than I am! Good job on getting the gym membership!

Hope you have a good week!

    • I’ve always been pretty anti-light stuff, but since I’m counting calories it’s become kind of essential. Like 170 calories per yogurt, versus 80. It’s working though, so I’m dealing with the not-as-delicious light stuff.

It’s very awesome that you’ve met bloggers in your area! I want to find a way to meet even more in my area, I’m kind of brainstorming now.

  5. Aw, bunny! And I am so so so jealous of a book blogger lunch! I feel like all the English bloggers I know (which isn’t that many, tbh) all live up north, so I’m ALL ALONEEEEE! Ahem. It’s maybe not as dramatic as that. But still, lucky youuu! :)

    • I do feel pretty lucky to have some other bloggers right here in my city. But I wish I could come to England and visit you!!! Someday there will need to be EPIC gathering in which we all flock to one place to hang out together. And it will be awesome.

  6. Wilfred is so odd but so funny (if a little dark and melodramaticy at times) at least from the episodes I’ve seen, which are sporadic ones from this and last season.

    • It is SO STRANGE. But oddly, I’m enjoying it. Well, at least the first two episodes. But I hate Elijah Wood so much that I’m hoping the show ends in him character finally succeeding in offing himself.

  7. I’ve seen the previews for Wilfred but didn’t know that’s what it was about. REminds a little too much of the movie Ted.

    • It’s SOOOO different from Ted. While Wilfred is funny, it has that weird, crazy factor because it’s essentially a suicidal guy going nuts and imaging a rude-mannered dog is talking to him. It’s just so odd, but in kind of a good way.
