Top 5 Shows and Movies I Watched in 2016

I was going to do a comics post today… but I feel like I need to catch up a bit on my comics reading before I can do it right. So instead, let’s talk about some of the best things I watched this year! As you know, I’m the WORST at watching stuff but I did manage to see all of the super heroes movies, at least. And thereΒ might be some stuff on here that came out before 2016 but I just finally got around to.

Deadpool – Starting off the year right was Deadpool! I’m SO glad this movie was done well, because it would’ve been really easy to screw it up. Ryan Reynolds is a genius, and I can put this on while I do other things and still enjoy the crap out of it. I think it might need to be re-watched this Christmas weekend, actually.

Luke Cage – LUKE CAGE!!! My life basically is not complete without these Marvel Netflix shows. They did such a great job, from the casting to the setting, everything. OMG that scene with Method Man! That scene when Mariah… you know. Amazing. I feel like I didn’t get to fangirl with enough people over Luke Cage this year, but it was great and goddamn I need season 2 already, but that will take forever. (Also, Daredevil season 2 also came out this year… butΒ Luke Cage clearly topped that.)

Galavant See, I told you there would be things on here that came out before 2016. But I finally watched Galavant and of course I LOVED it. It’s whimsical and fun and people suck for cancelling it after only 2 seasons. I would also like to complain here about how it’s not available on DVD, because I have friends who have yet to get the internet or Netflix and this would have been an AWESOME Christmas gift.

Stranger Things – When the internet started squealing about this one, and I found out it was only 8 episodes, I decided to give it a shot and of course it was so great. The honeyman and I binge-watched it and then watched it again with friends. Dustin is my most favorite kid ever, I swear. (And for the record, Barb kind of sucks.) I think season 2 comes out in July, so there’s something to look forward to!

Captain America: Civil War – TEAM IRON MAN, WHAT UP! I need to re-watch this, but I thought it was a pretty good time. It handled having a ton of characters in it surprisingly well. I CAN’T WAIT for the Black Panther movie. And despite my frustration at another fucking Peter Parker… that Holland kid did a good job and I guess I’m willing to see the new Spider-Man: Homecoming movie when it comes out. Maybe after a thousand iterations of Peter Parker we’ll finally get at least one Miles Morales… Anyways, yeah this was fun. Can we be done with the focus on Captain America now and just focus on the Avengers?

And there we have it! Notice none of the DC movies made my top five, because they were shitty. Was there anything else good this year that I missed and should watch in 2017?

***UPDATE: I forgot Ghostbusters!! So I’m adding it as a last-minute pick dammit, because it was hilarious and I loved these women and I’ve ALREADY re-watched it. Remember how I’m bad at watching things? Exactly. And it’s on my Christmas list because I want to watch it again and again. Fingers crossed they announce a second one.

Okay NOW I’m done.

  1. Ghostbusters from me too! I loved all the women in it so much, and Hemsworth was a treasure as the dumb receptionist, and I basically can’t wait to rewatch it. I still haven’t seen Deadpool, but in 2017 I should be able to find time to watch it, if I don’t forget again. (Which you can never count on — I’m terrible about remembering what movies I want to see.)
