Top Ten Tuesday: A Reader’s Wishes

the broke and the bookish

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish

Ohhhh man, wishing is always fun. This week’s topic is 10 Wishes I’d Ask The Book Genie To Grant Me. Let the high hopes begin!

  1. A credit card just for books and comics that I never have to pay on.
  2. A library room in my house with an infinite amount of room – kind of like Hermione’s magic purse.
  3. More hours in the day for more reading.
  4. A much better memory so I can remember all of the things I read.
  5. For the Outlander series to never end.
  6. For J.K. Rowling to write more books set in the Harry Potter universe.
  7. To have my own moderately successful bookstore/comic store.
  8. For publishing to become more diverse and more equal, at every possible level.
  9. For book awards to be aired on TV like a big red-carpet event.
  10. To find more like-minded female readers in my area so we can have an awesome book/comic club, or to move to a city with a more active book and comic culture.
  11. To go on an international literary trip to see fancy libraries, classic author’s houses and graves, visit blogging buddies, shop at famous bookstores, etc.
  12. For reading to burn as many calories as running.
  13. For people in the literary world to be better paid – especially authors, librarians, and booksellers.
  14. A national reading holiday, that everyone gets off of work.
  15. For everyone to experience the reading of a really great book, and then another, and then another…

  1. Televised book awards would be awesome. Instead of ‘what are you wearing?’ authors could be asked who they’re reading. 🙂

I would love to meet more bookish people in my area. (can someone make an app for this please?) Pittsburgh is a pretty huge city – surely it can’t be THAT hard, right? There’s a decently-sized YA group with a bookclub, which is fantastic, only I’m not much of a YA reader. I’m spoiled by the fact that within walking distance I have an Indie and they have a list of local bookclubs, but they’re all made up of older ladies. I would love to find/create a group for late 20-somethings that looks at all kinds of works: comics, YA, MG, classics, etc etc.
