Sarah Sunday!

Interview outfit, celebratory cake from friends, Gabby staring at Treland, and this week’s comic haul

So, big news this week – I got a new job! I had an interview earlier in the week, and was offered the job on Thursday. I start on April 6th. I’m SO EXCITED. I’m kind of sad to be leaving my current co-workers, but this is such a great opportunity and I think I can do the job really, really well. I’m even going to have my own office! With a door and everything! Not a cubicle. Oh man. That’s just icing on the cake, of course, but every little perk is exciting. I can’t wait till the honeyman calls tonight so I can tell him. (Oh, and speaking of the honeyman, I mailed him a care package this weekend! I don’t know if he’ll want or be able to use half of the stuff I put in there, but at the very least it should make him smile and he can share stuff with his buddies if he wants.)

So, the job news is really been the biggest, blab-worthy part of my week. This week was so BUSY. My mom and nephew slept over Monday night because of some issue with the furnace at their house, Tuesday was my interview and then that night I played hours and hours of Borderlands with my friend, Wednesday I was so tired I just laid on the couch all night and watched Friends, Thursday I went out with my sister to celebrate my new job, and then Friday night was game night. I think poor Gabby has been really sad and annoyed that I haven’t been home much this week, so I’m trying to be home as much as possible this weekend. I have to go to the store later, and out to see Treland’s mom, but otherwise it’s just laundry and being lazy today.

And of course, my reading has suffered this week. I’m listening to The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae on Audible, which is really great so far. I’m reading This Nonviolent Stuffll Get You Killed: How Guns Made the Civil Rights Movement Possible by Charles E. Cobb, which is super fascinating and interesting. And I’m trying to basically stuff as many comics in my face as I can because my stack had grown to a ridiculous height – on the menu today is the new Ms. Marvel, Borderlands, newest three issues of Thor, and some other stuff.

And that’s all the updating I have, because I want to try and actually get another post written today. Fingers crossed, because I have a headache right now. Hmph.

How is your weekend going?

  1. Holy cow, congratulations! Well done on the new job. Can you share any details about what you’ll be doing, or do you prefer to keep that private?

Your interview outfit is great. I love the drape on your blouse, and the color suits you very well.

I had an interesting weekend, which will be posted about in more detail tomorrow. The good news is that I got to hang out with Kazuo Ishiguro for a while and get him to sign books for my store. The bad news is that the hotel where he was staying didn’t have a real elevator and thus I had to schlep, along with some very kind hotel staff, about 30 boxes of books from one floor to another. And then back again.

    1. Thanks Emily!! I’m super excited. So it’s an IT staffing agency that I’ll be working for, and the position I’m going into is an entry level role doing new-hire paperwork for the contracted employees and working with them to make sure their pay, benefits, etc are correct. It’s designed to grow into another higher role, and possibly I can work my way up to a recruiter. I’m SO psyched! I know it’s a job I can do really really well.

And oh man, you had quite the workout this weekend :/ 30 boxes?? Geez!

  2. Congratulations on the new job! How exciting! My spring break this past week has consisted of sitting on my bum and reading, getting done nothing else I wanted to accomplish. It’s back to work for me tomorrow, but I’ll be looking for a new job this summer. Wish me luck.

    1. Thanks Brandie! I shared with Emily, but I don’t know if you see my comment there, so here’s what I’ll be doing:

I currently work for a transportation company, so this will be a lot different, but I think in a good way 😀

      1. No, I completely missed the comment, but that sounds awesome! One of my best friends was a recruiter (until she decided to be a SAHM) – and she started out doing similar jobs like that, and she loved it! I hope you love it, and I’m really happy for you! And I HOPE you don’t have to work crazy hours anymore and get more reading time!

  4. Such great news! Congratulations, your own office sounds fabulous 🙂

I’m being a bit away from reading and book blogging, been in a strange mood and not reading that much (1-2-3 star books :S) – must be one of the longer slumps again.

    1. Thanks!

Sounds like we’re in kind of the same mood. I feel like I haven’t read a REALLY fabulous book in a while – maybe I should re-read a past favorite or something. I’m kind of slowly making my way through some books, and reading a bunch of comics in between.
