Reading time w/ my nephew & niece, honeyman and me on Halloween (he looks pissed), new comics and candy, and Gabby cuddles while I read.

I’m both very happy and very sad that it’s Sunday. Sundays are usually awesome, but uggghhhhh Monday is tomorrow and I just can’t.

  • Only worked 52 hours this week! That’s one less than last week! *rolls eyes*
  • I went to a Jamberry Nails party last night. It was actually kind of cool, even though I barely have nails. Maybe they’ll help me stop biting them. Or, more likely, I’ll just use them on my toes. I bought a Galactic pattern, and a Newspaper pattern. Space and anything bookish, those are my things. OH MAN I wish they had a cat pattern… or comics/superheroes.
  • I am making a chicken pot pie tonight, and chicken taco chili tomorrow. The chicken pot pie is SO delicious but so bad for you… the chicken taco chili is a Skinnytaste recipe so you can basically eat as much as you want and the calories hardly amount to anything, which is awesome. Basically, I’m excited for cold-weather food.
  • A friend of mine read borrowed and read my copy of Bad Feminist, and when we talked about it, both of her criticisms of the book had to do with essays that were more aboutΒ race, and that’s just so odd to me. So odd that apparently it’s something still on my mind, even days later.
  • I have not finished a book in fucking forever. My goal today is to write some review posts, mini or otherwise, and then lay around reading all day. I’m about halfway through Station Eleven, I have a ton of comics to catch up on, and I really want to start other books from my November TBR. I had started The Birth of the Pill last week, but I ended up having to return it to the library unfinished. One more book to go on my Christmas list.
  • I’m listening to Yes Please by Amy Poehler on Audible and it’s amusing. She has a lot of guest stars popping in and out, she’s funny and nice, and it’s a good driving listen.
  • I’m hoping the honeyman will agree to watch Horns with me tonight if we rent it on Amazon Instant Video. I really want to see it, and I almost never want to see movies.
  • We went to the new Buffalo Wild Wings that opened up near our house, and it was VERY pleasant. It happened to be 60 cent boneless wing night, everyone was super friendly, there were charging ports at the booth for your phone AND free wi-fi, and the food was delicious. I think we’re going to go there for date night more often.
  • I really should leave the house today to do some sort of shopping. I need new shoes, I need to start Christmas shopping, etc… but I kinda just don’t feel like it.

Alright, I’m going to start writing some reviews while I still have some motivation. How is everyone else’s weekend going?

  1. So was he pissed? πŸ˜‰

I have Yes Please on hold at the library and can’t wait for it to come in. I’m way back but luckily the library where I’m getting from has 11 copies (on ebook) so it might not be as long. Fingers crossed.

Weekend is going well so far and I have tomorrow off as I do usually once a month, when I work on Saturday of that week. Like you, I’m trying not to think about work right now either as I’m reading some Sunday blog posts and then some novel reading later. Also one in which you might be interested: Falling Sky by Rajan Khanna, which looks similar to Chris Wooding’s Ketty Jay series. I’ll let you know whether it’s as good, although I doubt it because that series was pretty damned good.

    1. Oh yeah, he hates taking pictures πŸ˜‰

The audio of Yes Please is a lot of fun, but I flipped through Yes Please at the bookstore and now I want to be reading that too… it’s FULL of pictures and stuff.

And YES, let me know about Falling Sky. The Ketty Jay series is so amazing, but anything comparable would be nice.

  2. Holy hours, Batman! Whew.

I make that chicken taco chili recipe pretty darn often and we all love it. Well, except my youngest who LIKES NOTHING I SWEAR.

I cannot wait to get me a copy of Yes, Please. Oh, and I really want to read Bad Feminist too. I’m just not reading like I used to. It’s depressing, boo. I’m hoping to wind up this year with a bunch of nonfiction. I’m really looking forward to 2015. It has to be better than this year πŸ˜‰

    Have a great week, lady!

    1. AGREED. 2014 was kind of a mess. I’m thinking 2015 will definitely be better for me in terms of books read, since the honeyman will be gone until June… that’s a lot of extra reading time, at least.

Get your mitts on Bad Feminist, if you can. I flew through it, you can def fit it in before the end of the year πŸ™‚

  3. Only 52 hours, huh? Geez…I hope this week is calmer for you. πŸ™‚

I didn’t leave the house all weekend and, even though I was sick most of it, I loved that I didn’t leave the house all weekend!

Chicken Pot Pie – you keep reminding me that I want to try that!

I haven’t tried Jamberry nails yet, but it’s something I want to try some day. I have short nails, too. I just can’t keep up on them and I hate painting nails/taking off polish with a PASSION. Ugh.

I rarely want to see movies, either. Horns would be a good one. I love anything horror-ish.

Hope you have a good week!

    1. I looooove the weekends when I get to stay home the whole time. Doesn’t happen often enough.

The Jamberry nails thing is cool… I don’t know if I’ll be able to resist picking at it while wearing them on my fingers, but I’ll give it a go. At least they’ll look cute on my toes πŸ™‚

  4. Are you enjoying Station Eleven? I read it last week and liked it a lot, but I don’t want to recommend it SO highly that I skew your expectations and you end up disappointed. This is a thing I worry about a lot.

Weekend was awful! I was relieved to get to Monday, believe it or not!

    1. THIS: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2009/11/quick-recipe-leftover-turkey-pot-pie/

Except I use rotisserie chicken meat, and just use a frozen pre-made crust because I’m lazy. And I think I wrote my directions (in my recipe binder) out in easier amounts… like 4 chopped carrots instead of 1/2 cup or whatever she says. I re-wrote it after the first time I made it so it was easier to read off of. But it is seriously the MOST delicious pot pie filling, omg.

  5. Mmm … Chicken Pot Pie is delicious! It’s one of my go-to recipes in the winter. And you need to finish a book! I just started to get back into audiobooks and love it. The little boy has currently stolen my iPod since we use it for white noise in his room, so I’m saving up points to get a new one … I’m sooooooo close! Then I hope to listen to more audiobooks and maybe even get an Audible account again. Have you read Horns? I still want to read it before watching, but after that Daniel Radcliffe video the other day I’m sure I’ll try and read it sooner rather than later.

    1. Audible is great, though I do find that I end up listening to audiobooks only 3 days a week, because of my other two work days I’m listening to the Book Riot and Panels podcasts during my commute. My reading seems to be better this week already though, I only have 100 pages left in Dataclysm πŸ™‚

I did read Horns, and I loooooved it. I’m super excited for the movie.
