Sarah Sunday!

Sarah Sunday

Hey guys! This week went TOO FAST. Way too fast. I had four days off, but most of those days ended up being so busy that I hardly had time to enjoy it.

So Monday was a day that made me realize how kind of neurotic I am. Basically I had some stuff I had to do, but waiting for my sister so we could go to the gym really threw my schedule off and I got weirdly agitated about it. But then the honeyman took me to lunch at Cheeburger and we walked around the beach and it was a lovely day and I felt a whole ton more relaxed. And THEN we got Abbott’s ice cream and walked around the beach more, and then we sat on a bench and there was gum on the seat that I didn’t see and that kind of ruined the only pair of capri jeans that I had. So that happened.

Tuesday and Wednesday were both kind of really busy – we saw friends, ate delicious food, I did a crap ton of laundry and packed some more. Thursday was the one day that I didn’t do anything – I read all day and finished two books, and then stayed up way too late with the honeyman finishing season 4 of Breaking Bad.

Speaking of Breaking Bad, we got into a discussion with some friends about it and basically they said they had no interest in it because the idea of a guy making/selling meth to support his family after he died of cancer was just ridiculous. Something about how selling meth isn’t honorable. And well OBVIOUSLY it’s not a good thing to do… but basically, I think Walt’s intentions were really good in the beginning and I wouldn’t be furious at someone for doing the same thing. I get wanting to support your family and saying fuck it, I’m gonna die anyways. Plus, the nerd in my totally loves how awesome Walt is at cooking meth because he’s a chemistry whiz. Anyways, I think our friends should watch it… and I might just pull the friend test card to get them to so they can get addicted to it and we can talk about it and all hate Skyler together.

You're goddamn right, Breaking Bad gif

ANYWAYS. Getting off track. This coming week is probably going to be really busy – I need to get as much packing as possible done, and I need to try to get ahead a bit in blog posts. Bout of Books is coming up (starts August 19th!) and I’m hosting one of the challenges and I want to get a lot done now so that I can read a lot that week. Soooo… yeah. Man, this month is going too fast.

Bookish update: I finished A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf (rage-inducing), Dead Man Rising by Lilith Saintcrow (second book syndrome), Goodbye, Chunky Rice by Craig Thompson (weird short graphic novel), and The Universe Versus Alex Woods by Gavin Extence (fan-freaking-tastic, loved it).

Fangirl

Seriously, read Alex Woods.

I’m now focusing on finishing Edge of the Universe by Paul Halpern, which for some reason I’ve been really slow about. I might also start Blankets by Craig Thompson, cause you know. A giant graphic novel sounds like good Sunday reading.

Alright, that’s all I got. How are you guys doing? Thoughts on our Breaking Bad discussion? Have you read The Universe Versus Alex Woods yet, and if not, then WHY NOT?

  1. I’m not always all that good at handling someone messing up my schedule either 😉 But it sounds like it turned into a lovely day in the end, aside from the gum ruining your jeans… Have you tried putting it in the freezer for a couple of hours? I sort of remember my mom doing that once and the gum coming out way more easily that way.
I wish I could join in for Bout of Books, but half of the week I’m in Mallorca and the other half I’ll be in Amsterdam… But I hope you have a lot of fun with it!

    1. I didn’t try anything yet for my jeans… I picked most of the gym off, so now it’s like a thin sticky layer there. I read an article that suggested about 15 different variations of how to get gum out of clothes – freeze it, boil it, use peanut butter, etc and all ended with scrubbing it with a toothbrush and repeating until it was all out. Honestly, I’ll probably just go spend the $15 for a new pair instead of going through all that, lol.

It sounds like you’re going to be having SO MUCH fun during B.o.B. week! Definitely better to do some travelling 🙂

  2. Breaking Bad is a GENIUS show. Is selling meth honorable? Well, duh. But that’s part of the brilliance of the show. Skyler..what a dope.

I’ve put Alex on my wish list and I’ll definitely get to it. One of these days 😉

    1. Exactly! I think shows like Breaking Bad and Dexter are really fun, because even though they’re not exactly plausible, it’s just so fun to see the humanity in the bad guys and end up feeling all the feels for them, you know?

  3. I’ve never seen Breaking Bad before but I know the husband tried watching a few episodes and it didn’t grab him. I think there are some shows that we watch that are more realistic, but it’s really not a bad thing to watch things that just DON’T seem realistic, or maybe unhonorable. If you enjoy it, you enjoy it!

  5. I think avoiding something because it “seems ridiculous” is a bit short-sighted and one can end up missing a lot of good stuff. The whole conflict in this series is based on the moral issues that the premise of teacher making meth to save family creates. Of course, not everyone has to like everything and if you say it’s not my thing while understanding the premise, it’s perfectly fine. But that is a different thing than it seems ridiculous in my mind. The world is so complicated and there are so many shades of right and wrong, you can’t just decide “this is right” and “this is wrong” I think.

Glad you got to read an awesome book this last week 🙂

    1. Totally agree. It’s okay, we agreed – I’ll watch The Count of Monte Cristo & Alien (I’m such a lazy movie watcher), and they’ll watch the first season of Breaking Bad. MUAHAHAHA they have no idea how sucked in they’re going to get!

  6. I suffer from the same schedule-alteration-agitation. I literally drives me up the wall!

Note to self: must watch Breaking Bad when finished with Dexter. So many people talk about it and I want in on the chatter 🙂

I have had Alex Woods on my kindle for an age and I really really need to get around to it because it sounds awesome and if you say it is awesome then I pretty much need to get on that. I’ll put it next to my bed then I remember when I’m next faced with the inevitable ‘what shall I read’ frenzy. Or I could save it for BoB? Hmm…

    Have a lovely week 🙂

    1. Oh if you like Dexter, I’m sure you’ll like Breaking Bad. I avoided it for a long time too, but I get it now.

Yes! Alex Woods! That would be perfect B.o.B. reading material, I flew through it.
