Sarah Sunday!

Well ya’ll, it’s a sad start to this Sunday. Somehow, the jury found Zimmerman not guilty. What in the fuck. I can JUST barely see how they found him not guilty on the murder charge, but really, not even of manslaughter? Per the CNN article – To convict Zimmerman of manslaughter, the jurors would have had to believe that he “intentionally committed an act or acts that caused the death of Trayvon Martin.” That is EXACTLY what happened. This is just really disappointing and infuriating.

And while I’m on a news-kick, Iowa says it’s perfectly okay to fire an employee that’s “too irresistable”. Great. *rolls eyes* And that anti-abortion bill passed in Texas, which is a level of stupidity I cannot even deal with.

BUT in a slightly happier bit of news, Target is now refusing to carry Paula Deen cookware in light of her racist ways. Yay Target. So maybe there’s some hope for humanity after all. I mean, I would prefer it if Zimmerman was found guilty for shooting a kid for no other reason than he was black and in a hoodie, but you know. Apparently we still live in an age in which Cheerios can’t even show an ad with an interracial couple without there being some huge racist outcry. I always know that racism is very much alive in the U.S., it just sucks to see evidence of it every damn day in the news.

ANYWAYS.

In the life of Sarah, things are going okay because after work today I have TEN DAYS OFF and that it awesome indeed. It’s our 6-year anniversary next weekend, so we both took a bit of time off to celebrate. I’m SO looking forward to four days off in a row with the honeyman.

I watched L this week, and as you can see above, he finally got a haircut! I don’t know why my sis waited until he was practically 2 years old to cut his hair, but he looks so much older and cuter now. That kid is a handful though. Just watching him for a few hours drains me. And he’s in that annoying I-only-know-a-few-words stage in which he calls any adult in his vicinity “mommy”. He really, really needs to learn how say “aunt” or “Sarah” or “tia”. I am not anyone’s damn mommy, and my god, how do you mothers deal with hearing that all day? Drove me crazy.

Gabby is finally getting spayed on Monday. I’m sure I’ll be a nervous wreck while she’s at the vet, because you know… I won’t be there and this will be her first real vet visit and I’m a neurotic cat-owner. I’m planning to start packing my books while she’s at the vet that day. Should be a decent distraction and will keep me busy. And yeah, finally starting to pack! I know we’re not moving for 6 more weeks, but I have a lot to go through, trying to figure out what to throw out / donate / put in storage, etc. And I’m hoping to get to the gym a lot during my vacation, maybe I can finally run 3 miles on the treadmill without stopping (I can just barely make it to 2 miles).

Bookish update: I finished Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson this week, as well as The Pleasure of Finding Things Out by Richard Feynman. Both were fantastic. The Feynman book was a collection of some of his shorter interviews, essays, talks, etc. and I enjoyed it a lot, and now I can’t wait to read more about and by him. He may end up being one of my favorite physicists.

I’m reading Joyland by Stephen King right now, and I’m considering DNF-ing it… I don’t know. I’m 100 pages in (about 1/3 of the way) and not much has happened yet. It’s kind of boring me. I’m not sure what I’m going to start next… probably a classic, either Summer by Edith Wharton or The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas.

So. That’s that! I’m scheduling some posts ahead of time this week, in case I don’t get online much later in the week. I’ll try to pop on Twitter and keep on top of my blog reader, but if I’m not around much it’s because I’m off relaxing and doing vacation-y things.

Hope ya’ll are having a good weekend!

  1. These racist and anti-women things hit my nerve as well.

Wow, it’s noticeable I haven’t been around a while, your nephew has grown so much! I wonder the same thing – how can people manage this child-raising, I know I’m tired every time my friend with 2-year old visits,a nd I don’t even have to watch him on my own, lol.

I hope you have a nice relaxing vacation!

    1. Yeah, L is huge now! I can’t believe he’s almost 2… but at the same time, if he could hurry up and be 4 or 5 already, that’d be great! Lol.

I’ll do by best to enjoy my vacation 😉

  2. Ugh, I can’t believe they didn’t convict him! I mean, he never denied shooting the boy!
But 10 days off work!! YAYY!!! I’m so happy for you! Now you can fully relax for a bit and it’s nice that you two can have some time off together 🙂 Do you have anything planned for your anniversary?
L is really rocking his haircut! 🙂
And I can totally understand you being a wreck while your cat is at the vet! I’ll be sending good thoughts Gabby’s (and your) way!

    1. I am really surprised and really disgusted at the Zimmerman outcome. They keep saying the burdon of proof is on the prosecution, but he freely admitted to shooting and killing him, so should’nt it have been up to him to prove that it was 100% self-defense? And even then, that argument barely stands since he got out of the car and followed the kid against the 911 operator’s orders… UGH. It’s such crap.

But yes, yay vacation. We don’t have anything planned specifically for our anniversary. We might take a day trip or something, but otherwise probably just a lot of hanging out together being lazy 🙂

Thanks for the good vibes for Gabby 🙂 I’m sure she’ll be okay, but I know I’ll worry no matter what, lol.

  3. 10 days off sounds awesomely relaxing. I hope you’ll get a nice rest and also a very nice anniversary 🙂 (We have a 3-year one coming up during our 3-week vacation in August.) I also understand about being nervous while the cat is at the vet, one of my cats (Mammu, the black-and-white one) is a total panic-machine and usually leaves half her coat to the vet’s office so it’s very stressful :p However, don’t worry too much, during my several years of working in a cat shelter I saw sooooo many cats getting the surgery done and they all were fine afterwards, even if a bit dizzy from the anesthesia at first 🙂

    1. Congrats on your 3 year anniversary coming up!

Awww, poor Mammu! I’m not sure how Gabby’s going to be yet… whenever we’ve taken her to the local clinics held at the pet store to get her shots, she’s been good and quiet, but a little shaky. I’m gonna feel so bad leaving her there for the day. I’m glad I don’t have to go back to work for a while though, so I’ll be home to keep an eye on her afterwards & make sure she’s healing okay 🙂

  4. I’m also reeling from the verdict. People who say we’re living in a post-racist society seriously have their heads up their a$$es.

In other new, though, YAY for ten days off. Hope y’all have a marvelous time eating good things and reading good things and watching good things. Were you one of the people who got me started on watching Sherlock? I can’t remember now who it was, but it was 2-3 people from the HP readalong. Anyway, i started and LOVED it. So thanks if it was you.

Gabby will be great–no worries! (though like you, I’m a worrier when my cat is left at the vet, too).

    1. AGREED.

I probably wasn’t one of the ones who mentioned Sherlock, b/c I’ve never seen it… but I’m glad you’re enjoying it! Lol. I’ll have to check it out one of these days. Is it on Netflix or Hulu?

I’m sure Gabby will be alright, I’ll just be anxious for a bit on Monday! So you know, I apologize in advance if I’m really annoying on Twitter or Instagram that day with the Gabby feels.

  5. I feel like the world HAS LOST ITS SHIT!! WTH is going on?? These are the mornings when I want to weep for humanity.

LOL about everything you wrote about your nephew! My youngest nephew calls me Aunt DEN, it’s a riot. I guess J’s are difficult for him 😉

I hope Gabby is ok 🙂 Good luck on the packing, fun times!

    1. I know exactly what you mean. The world has lost it’s freaking mind.

Yeah, my nephew can’t say a whole lot yet… mostly mommy, juice, buh-bye (the CUTEST), tattoo, and sorry. Lol. What a weird collection of words. I think my sister is starting to teach him to say “Ti-ti” for aunt, which he’s said a couple times but doesn’t get yet that it relates to ME, lol. He just repeats it. Kids.

  6. I don’t get the Zimmerman thing, either. He shot Trayvon. He ADMITTED to shooting him. How he got off not guilty is beyond me.

Since I’m going to be a mommy, I think it’ll be nice to hear my yet-unborn little one call me mommy. Of course, I’ll make sure that he or she doesn’t call EVERYONE mommy.

YAY for 10 days off! I hope you get lots of reading in. And good luck to Gaby! 🙂

    1. Exactly – admitted to shooting him, and definitely can’t prove that it was self-defense (especially since he was following him!). UGH, it’s sickening.

I’m sure you’ll love being called mommy, and I know my sister is totally loving it 🙂 See, this is why I don’t have kids! Lol.
