Well ya’ll, it’s a sad start to this Sunday. Somehow, the jury found Zimmerman not guilty. What in the fuck. I can JUST barely see how they found him not guilty on the murder charge, but really, not even of manslaughter? Per the CNN article – To convict Zimmerman of manslaughter, the jurors would have had to believe that he “intentionally committed an act or acts that caused the death of Trayvon Martin.” That is EXACTLY what happened. This is just really disappointing and infuriating.
And while I’m on a news-kick, Iowa says it’s perfectly okay to fire an employee that’s “too irresistable”. Great. *rolls eyes* And that anti-abortion bill passed in Texas, which is a level of stupidity I cannot even deal with.
BUT in a slightly happier bit of news, Target is now refusing to carry Paula Deen cookware in light of her racist ways. Yay Target. So maybe there’s some hope for humanity after all. I mean, I would prefer it if Zimmerman was found guilty for shooting a kid for no other reason than he was black and in a hoodie, but you know. Apparently we still live in an age in which Cheerios can’t even show an ad with an interracial couple without there being some huge racist outcry. I always know that racism is very much alive in the U.S., it just sucks to see evidence of it every damn day in the news.
In the life of Sarah, things are going okay because after work today I have TEN DAYS OFF and that it awesome indeed. It’s our 6-year anniversary next weekend, so we both took a bit of time off to celebrate. I’m SO looking forward to four days off in a row with the honeyman.
I watched L this week, and as you can see above, he finally got a haircut! I don’t know why my sis waited until he was practically 2 years old to cut his hair, but he looks so much older and cuter now. That kid is a handful though. Just watching him for a few hours drains me. And he’s in that annoying I-only-know-a-few-words stage in which he calls any adult in his vicinity “mommy”. He really, really needs to learn how say “aunt” or “Sarah” or “tia”. I am not anyone’s damn mommy, and my god, how do you mothers deal with hearing that all day? Drove me crazy.
Gabby is finally getting spayed on Monday. I’m sure I’ll be a nervous wreck while she’s at the vet, because you know… I won’t be there and this will be her first real vet visit and I’m a neurotic cat-owner. I’m planning to start packing my books while she’s at the vet that day. Should be a decent distraction and will keep me busy. And yeah, finally starting to pack! I know we’re not moving for 6 more weeks, but I have a lot to go through, trying to figure out what to throw out / donate / put in storage, etc. And I’m hoping to get to the gym a lot during my vacation, maybe I can finally run 3 miles on the treadmill without stopping (I can just barely make it to 2 miles).
Bookish update: I finished Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson this week, as well as The Pleasure of Finding Things Out by Richard Feynman. Both were fantastic. The Feynman book was a collection of some of his shorter interviews, essays, talks, etc. and I enjoyed it a lot, and now I can’t wait to read more about and by him. He may end up being one of my favorite physicists.
I’m reading Joyland by Stephen King right now, and I’m considering DNF-ing it… I don’t know. I’m 100 pages in (about 1/3 of the way) and not much has happened yet. It’s kind of boring me. I’m not sure what I’m going to start next… probably a classic, either Summer by Edith Wharton or The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas.
So. That’s that! I’m scheduling some posts ahead of time this week, in case I don’t get online much later in the week. I’ll try to pop on Twitter and keep on top of my blog reader, but if I’m not around much it’s because I’m off relaxing and doing vacation-y things.
Hope ya’ll are having a good weekend!
