Once again, here’s the official blurb from the Bout of Books team about what exactly this readathon is all about:

BoB 7 blurb

Sounds awesome, right? Cause it is.

So this here is my goal and updates post. I’m going to make it a sticky post so it’ll be at the top of my blog all week. I don’t like over-running your readers with daily posts like this (especially since reviews and whatnot will still go up), so just check back here for my updates 🙂 So, let’s move on to the goals!

pile of books

Obviously I probably won’t be finishing all of these, but I like to have options.

THE BOOKS

  • Lord of the Flies by William Golding
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling (read 1st section for HP readalong)
  • Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
  • The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba
  • The Professor and the Madman by Simon Winchester
  • Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me by Chelsea’s family, friends, and other victims
  • George’s Secret Key to the Universe by Lucy and Stephen Hawking

THE GOALS

  • Read at least 200 pages per day, hopefully getting up to 1500 pages read by the end.
  • Finish The Professor and the Madman, which I’m about 1/4 of the way through.
  • Cross at least 4 books off of my list.
  • Visit and comment on other blogs, new-to-me and not, at least once a day.
  • Join in on at least one Twitter chat (@SarahSaysRead if you wanna talk to me!)
  • HAVE FUN OF COURSE!

READATHON WRAP-UP!

I had a FANTASTIC time! I read 5 books, at 1683 pages! I’d have to double-check, but that might be the most I’ve ever read during Bout of Books!

I also got to participate in the Twitter chat on Wednesday (I think it was Wednesday…) and it was so much fun! Definitely found some new blogs to follow and met some really nice bloggers 🙂

Can’t wait till August!

  1. I really should tackle Lord of the Flies too, it’s such a classic story… I remember teacher reading parts of it at school, and it sounded so cruel somehow I started postponing it and never actually got to it.

Buuuut good luck for the readathon, I’m sure your page count is gonna be awesome! 😀

    1. I pretty much knew nothing about Lord of the Flies until I saw another blogger talk about it a bit ago.

I actually got called into work tonight/tomorrow and might have to work extra hours later too, so hopefully my page count doesn’t end up sucking too bad :-/

  2. Wooo! I love watching readathon progressions! I have never actually done one myself, but am a huge fan of other people doing them lol. I will continuously check back for updates! And also, what a badass reading list ;).

  3. Oooooh, 200 pages a day?! That’s a LOT! I set my goal at 1000 pages, which I think is kind of modest, and so if I completely obliterate it, that would be awesome. 🙂

    READ THINGS SARAH!!! WOOOOOOOO!!

    1. I bet you’ll crush your 1000-page goal 🙂

I actually might need to lower my goal – got called into work to do some overtime. Sad face. But still gonna try to ignore work calls and do alllll the readingggg!!!

  4. Oooh I only found out about the readathon today & it’s Tuesday in NZ but I’m gonna give it a go. Your comment on my Deweys post led me here. Now following & looking forward to your #boutofbooks progress. Good luck!

  5. I love #todayinsixwords, too. For me, everything over a 100 pages a day is “a great success”, as Borat would say, but then again I ain’t no reading machine like some of us 🙂 Readathon is doing good to my reading though, at least, and hoping you are enjoying too!

    1. I think the page count can be deceiving sometimes, cause I DEFINITELY read at a different pace depending on the material. I always read classics or non-fiction slower than I would fluffy books or novels. I’m glad that the readathon is helping your reading though! It’s definitely one of the best things about this readathon 🙂

    1. LOL but most of that was just that Chelsea Handler book! Pages fly by when you’re reading comedic fluff about a woman pulling pranks on her friends and getting drunk all the time 🙂

  6. Hahaha I love that cat gif 😀 It looks like yesterday was some generally odd day for many of us 🙂 I am feeling better today and determined to cave (erm, read) my way through to Fforde, I sure hope you’ll have a better day too!

  7. Good luck with your goals. Love the Han Solo gif for Monday’s update. I’ve been meaning to reread Lord of The Flies for a while now but decided to go with all new books for this event and save rereads for a later date.

    1. I started Lord of the Flies this morning. I’m only 1 chapter in so far though, so I don’t have an opinion yet, but I take it you enjoyed it?

I got some new books in the mail last week and I’m SO tempted to switch to one of those instead of continuing on with my readathon pile, lol.

      1. I read it back in high school, fifteen or so years ago, and it always stuck with me, though I can’t fully remember the story. Which is exactly why I want to reread it. Hope you enjoy it.

  8. 😀 Does that Friday gif means you took a bath the whole day? 3 books! I just reached 2 yesterday, I’d say it’s a great success. So many books read. I’m so curious about your thoughts on Lord of the Flies, I have always been so on the fence whether to read it or not.

    1. Dude I WISH! Lol. No, I just got really sidetracked – I spent a lot of time at work online instead of reading, then went and did some shopping (in which I bought myself 2 new books, yay), then went home and watched an episode of American Horror Story and The Office finale with the honeyman. So basically, everything but focus on reading, lol.

I just finished Lord of the Flies… I didn’t love it. And I have a lot of questions about it. My main thought is “boys are stupid” 🙂 I’ll try to get an actual review up soon.

      1. The honeyman is making me watch it, UGH. I don’t like being scared, and as I’m only 3 episodes in and I really have no idea what the hell is going on still, LOL. It’s so stressful.

  9. What a great selection of books. I might be the only person on the planet who hasn’t read HP yet but I put it on my Classics Club list so I get to it in the next 5 years. Are you doing the Classics Club Spin that gets announced tomorrow? New follower via Bloglovin and Twitter and glad to have found you, sounds like we have similar taste in books 🙂 Here are my Bout of Books Read-a-thon Goals and Updates if you’d like to stop by.

  10. Three things:
    1) Sick days are the worst. I hope you feel LOADS BETTER now and that you’ve enjoyed your weekend! There’s sunshine and everything! (Ish.)
    2) I really want to read Lord of the Flies. Like, I have no idea why I haven’t read it yet, insta-need kind of want to read it. DAMN LIBRARY BOOKS TAKING ALL MY TIME AWAY.
    3) Ohhhh, this post is so rich in GIFs. The kitten actually made me laugh out loud and scare a customer. The seal is just awesome. And the Sheldon smile will make it onto my blog in the near future.

Happy reading for our last few hours! 🙂

    1. I do feel loads better, thanks 🙂

Lord of the Flies was not what I was expecting… It annoyed me in a lot of different little ways. Sooo when you get around to it I can’t wait to see what you think! I’ve seen a lot more favorable reviews than mine will be…
