Sarah Sunday! And Happy Mother’s Day!

L, Gabby, Gabby, and quote from Space Chronicles

Good morning peoples! And Happy Mother’s Day!

It wasn’t a very exciting week for me – I didn’t have many days off, and the ones I did have off were kind of busy. I went to visit my dad yesterday, and we chatted about books for a while which was nice. It’s SO funny to see people who aren’t usually readers suddenly get so into books. What else…

I’ve changed my treadmill intervals. I lowered the speed I usually run at, and I can apparently run for MUCH longer at that speed. The pace is about a 12-minute mile which is super slow, but I don’t even care. If I can just get used to running 3 miles (so 36 minutes) without stopping, I’ll be happy. I still haven’t started running outside yet, which I want to do but keep procrastinating on until I get new shoes (and because I like the gym). Also, for anyone that cares, I’m still maintaining my current weight. Surprising, as I sometimes feel like I’m eating SO MUCH, but there we have it. In August it’ll be a whole year since I started working out and that’s just super cool. Never thought I had it in me.

OH! We saw Iron Man 3 last week and it was good! Really good, except for the ending. Obviously I’m not going to go into spoilers, but man I don’t really like Pepper Potts. I also finally watched the Reese Witherspoon version of Vanity Fair and ehhh it wasn’t my favorite. Aaaand the honeyman and I started watching a new SyFy show called Defiance and we’re totally hooked. It’s about Earth being accidentally terraformed by this group of aliens and it takes place years later and the alien species (of which there are apparently 7) and the humans are trying to co-exist. And the main characters are Nolan and his adopted (Irathient alien) daughter Irisa, and it’s just so interesting and fun! I may do a whole Defiance post sometime later this week, cause there’s a lot to talk about there. But hey, look at me actually watching stuff! I don’t even remember the last time I watched two movies in one week.

So yeah, it’s Mother’s Day! My mom is currently in Florida and won’t be home for like a week, but Mom if you’re reading this – Happy Mother’s Day and you’re the best and I love you!!!

Mommy! With baby L.

Also Happy Mother’s Day to my sisters Heather and Amanda 🙂

And hell, Happy Not-A-Mother’s Day to myself (and all the other ladies without kiddos), cause I totally love that I can go home and have date night with the honeyman tonight and hang out and relax without kids crawling all over me.

The main reason I don’t have or want kids…

Bookish update: Ummmm I think I read 2 books this week – Space Chronicles by Neil deGrasse Tyson, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling (which let’s be honest, should hardly count since it’s a very short 100 pages). I’m almost done with The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly, hopefully I’ll finish that before I leave work today. A lot of people have mentioned how much they love this book – I’m still undecided. I liked it a lot at the beginning, but all this time in this weird forest place has been VERY strange… I have no idea how it’s going to end, and I think that’ll be the deciding factor in how much I end up liking it.

YOU GUYS, Bout of Books starts tomorrow! I have four days off this week, so I should be able to TOTALLY ROCK this readathon. My goal post will go up tomorrow morning.

Okay, I gotta go finish this book now. I’ll talk to all your lovely faces (blogs?) later. Have a great week!

  1. Happy cat-mothers day Sarah!! (Actually, that should probably have its own day. I’ll start it up and let you know when it is 😉 )

You go girl with the running! I… am kind of terrified of running. But I WANT TO DO IT, so every person who goes ‘running! It’s ok’ makes me feel way better about it.

Bout of booooooks! I’m excited! Also I have no idea what I’m doing, so I’m taking my cue from everyone else haha.

    1. Aww thanks Laura! I saw a meme the other day to the effect of “I’m mad my cat didn’t get me a Mother’s Day card” and it made me laugh.

Running IS okay… eventually. Seriously I started off walking for 5 minutes, and then running for 1 minute, and then walking for 5 minutes… just take it slow. And if you’re listening to music put some fast-paced songs on there that almost make you WANT to run. And other than that just do what you feel like 🙂

I loooooove Bout of Books! I’m so psyched it starts today!!!

  2. Okay, seriously, go back and look at that picture of Gabby in the lower left corner (maybe with one eye closed), it looks like an ultrasound picture and I thought you were going to make some big announcement! 12 minute miles are just where I started and I still run them for my 5 mile runs. I’ve been at running for 8 months. Today, I ran a 5K at 33:15 and had a PR of a 10:25 mile. Keep going and you can do it. Faster happens when you least expect it and you won’t get faster unless you just keep running. Also, you might surprise yourself outside running. It’s easier to set a pace that can be faster and slower as your energy level changes. On the treadmill, I got a little stagnant because it was up to me to change the speed and I never had the urge to do that. But that’s just a thought and I don’t think you really asked for all that advice. I’m just all high on running right now, so forgive me for sticking my nose in.

    1. LOL that picture did look a bit fuzzy!!

“Faster happens when you least expect it and you won’t get faster unless you just keep running.” That’s actually EXACTLY what I was hoping to hear! I’m focusing on just running for longer periods of time right now, and I figure once I get used to running 3 miles or so without stopping, then I can start working on speed a bit if I want.

And I totally appreciate your advice 🙂

  3. Oh dear Sarah. I’ve been telling you forever to slow down and worry about endurance before worrying about speed!!! You’ll get there. Worry about enduring that 5K at a jog the entire time. Then I can show you how to increase your speed. My first treadmill 5K in August last year was in 38 minutes – and my last 5K race a few weeks ago was in 29:03. Speed comes with practice but endurance comes first. And I absolutely guarentee when you run outside you will be faster than the treadmill. A year ago when I started running, I could barely run for 5 mintues at a time. And you know that yesterday I ran 8.1 miles in 1 hr 24 minutes. So imagine where you will be in a year. I’m so proud of you and can’t wait to run Dirty Girl with you!!!

    1. Okay but I wasn’t “worrying” about my speed. I was at 6 because it felt more natural than running at 5 (and still does, sometimes). And I still don’t care about speed – I don’t care if running 3 miles takes me like 40 minutes, I’m just focusing on lasting that long now. Doing all this is nice, but I’m just not going to be a “runner”.

I am looking forward to the Dirty Girl run thingy though. Those obstacles look fun 🙂

  4. Ha ha! I don’t like getting up either. I wish I had thought of that before I had 3 kids! In my next life… 😉

    1. LOL. Seriously though, watching my almost 2-year old nephew is EXHAUSTING. Always having to get up to see where he is or stop him from doing something. I’m like “Can’t you just sit on the couch and look at books?!”

  5. Haha, belated happy not-a-mother-day 😉 Ever since I started working, I don’t mind getting up so much, but in the event that I do mind in the future and we have kids, I’m thinking of making the boyfriend get up 🙂
And aww,, L looks so cute!
I’m glad the visit with your dad went well! And yay for 4 days off, have fun with the readathon!
