Let’s Talk! Social Media

Lets Talk Lets Talk: Review Request Rant

Let’s Talk is a weekly meme created by Smash Attack Reads and A Book Obsession in which you talk about whatever the topic is. And if there’s one thing you know I love to do, it’s blab.

Today’s question:

What social media sites/tools do you frequently use? Which ones do you avoid and why?

  • Twitter! I love Twitter, even though I didn’t understand what the hell it was at first. And I don’t get to go on it as much as I’d like, but dude, I’m busy. Sometimes I really don’t even think about looking at my phone for ages because I’m driving or socializing or something. OH, and I’ve been using Twitter through Tweetcaster lately. I like that I can schedule tweets (even though it’s a pain to link to stuff from my phone), and I like the colors and interface better.

  • Instagram! Because apparently I feel the need to share pictures of Gabby, books, and food with people. Whatever, I ❤ it. Also, lately I’ve been using Instagram to take photos of the books I read to use in my book review posts. They’re purrrrty.

  • Pinterest! I mainly pin funny things… and, and bookish things, and occasionally things I want to actually try making and things I want to buy. Oh and of course I have a board for my book reviews.

I do use all three of these things for bookish and bloggish stuff, but I can use them as my own personal accounts too, and I think that’s why they’re my favorite and why I’ve stuck with them the longest*. I also use Tumblr, but rarely. I mainly use it to find GIFs and occasionally I reblog something.

I avoid Goodreads now – I used to love it and was on it all the time. Then work blocked it, and then by the time they came out with a phone app it seemed to have changed… too many people, too many teens, and it just got annoying. I also have a Facebook but I really want to delete it. It’s annoying and creepy. The only reason I haven’t yet is because I have family out of state and it kind of keeps me clued in on what’s happening in their lives, you know?

So, do you think there are any social media apps or tools I should be using to promote my blog? What your favorite? Or do you shun them all? Is that even possible? Let’s talk, people!

*Also, if you want to follow me on any of those things just search SarahSaysRead, or check for a button to the right. I try to keep the same name on everything so I can connect with my blog readers easier!

  1. I’m the same with Facebook! I feel really weird about it now, like IT’S WATCHING ME! When I first joined at uni it was so fun and user-driven, but now it’s just a marketing platform. I hate it, but our bookshop has a page so I have to go on every once in a while. Once the shop’s closed I might leave though, I just don’t like it and everyone I actually interact with is on Twitter or around the blogosphere or on email anyway! Oh, and YAY PINTEREST! What did I do during reading slumps before Pinterest came along? 😉

    1. Right??? Facebook used to be awesome, & now it sucks. Its Myspace all over again, on a bigger scale. I have a FB page for my blog, but I abandoned it, I haven’t looked at it in over a year… stupid FB.

  2. I only use Twitter. All those sites are such time sinks that I really try to spend as little time there as possible. Twitter is convenient because you can’t make super long posts there or anything. And right now I don’t have need for anything else. More time to read and do all those other nice things.

    1. Ugh they ARE such time wasters! I do find myself purposely ignoring them sometimes, because otherwise I’d never get anything done. And you know, its nice to see the real world once in a while! 🙂

  3. I think I come as close as possible to being a shunner. I have my blog and I am trying, but not very successfully, to use Twitter. That’s it. I don’t do Pinterest or Instagram (although that interests me a little) or Tumblr. I have never had a Facebook account because I really do think that is creepy.

    1. I like using Instagram with Twitter. Like everything I Instragram gets automatically tweeted as well.

Its good of you to be wary though! These things suck you in. And YAY for not having a FB! Ugh I really wanna delete mine…

  4. I love Pinterest, too! I’ve never gotten hooked on Instagram, but find it kind of intriguing. 🙂 I’m on the fence about Facebook … I like it to keep in touch with certain friends, but I really don’t post a LOT on there. I’m much more of a Twitter person.

    1. Same here. I mean, Twitter is really just like updating on Facebook except to a lot more people who are usually more interesting than the people in your FB timeline anyways! I have a lot more fun interacting with people on Twitter than I ever do on FB.
